The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures (MCLL) helps students build expertise in language, culture, and literature across modern and classical languages while gaining a multicultural perspective essential for thriving in our interconnected world. MCLL learners refine highly sought-after abilities including analytical reasoning, effective communication, quantitative analysis, ethical awareness, multilingual fluency, and cross-cultural understanding. We equip students to construct persuasive, well-supported arguments grounded in thorough research. Our programs deepen appreciation for the perspectives, societal contexts, and artistic expressions of Francophone, Classical, and Hispanic cultures. Alumni leverage these competencies to succeed in advanced academic pursuits and diverse careers spanning legal fields, tourism, global relations, diplomacy, community services, teaching, language services, and beyond.
