Our curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning, instruction, and training across diverse evaluation and remediation methods. We focus on bridging the gap between academic concepts and real-world application. The SLHS Department also offers specialized studies in bilingual speech-language pathology and family-centered intervention approaches.
Students pursuing MSSLHS certification complete a core curriculum designed to develop expertise across multiple professional domains, aligning with the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology's current certification standards. The program requires 57-60 credit hours spread over five semesters, with potential additional coursework needed to satisfy ASHA requirements.
From the initial orientation before Fall semester, graduate students receive ongoing guidance from a support team including the Graduate Advisor, Graduate Coordinator, and clinical faculty. This advisory group helps with course planning, future semester registration, and synchronizing academic studies with clinical practice to optimize each student's educational journey.
Students must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution. A grade point average of at least 3.00 in upper-division (junior- and senior-level) coursework and in any graduate work already completed.
The minimum scores considered acceptable for admission by the Graduate School are:
TOEFL: 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT)
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination
Application deadline: December 17 for fall
