The University of Texas iSchool and the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS) provide a combined degree program awarding both a Master of Science in Information Studies (MSIS) and a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies (MA). This accelerated program allows students to earn both degrees in three years - about one year faster than pursuing them separately - by reducing the total credit requirement from 69 (33 for LLILAS plus 36 for iSchool) to 60 credits overall. The curriculum consists of 30 credits from the iSchool and 30 from LLILAS, culminating in a Master's thesis that integrates both Information Studies and Latin American Studies.
Joint degree candidates must complete a thesis that bridges the fields of Information Studies and Latin American Studies as part of their program requirements.
Students must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution. A grade point average of at least 3.00 in upper-division (junior- and senior-level) coursework and in any graduate work already completed.
The minimum scores considered acceptable for admission by the Graduate School are:
TOEFL: 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT)
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination
