The Special Education Department provides a Ph.D. program specializing in Learning Disabilities and Behavior Disorders (LD/BD). This curriculum equips students for careers in academia, educational leadership positions, and advanced research on effective interventions for learning challenges. The program emphasizes extensive study and investigation into reading/math difficulties and behavioral issues in educational settings.
Throughout the program, students examine current approaches and successful treatment methods for learning and behavioral challenges. The curriculum also includes coursework in additional Special Education specialties, research methodologies, professional development classes, and interdisciplinary studies beyond the department.
Students are actively supported to participate in faculty-led research initiatives within the Special Education Department. Typically, full-time students complete this rigorous program in approximately four years.
Students must have bachelor’s plus a master’s degree from an accredited institution in the U.S. or proof of equivalent training at a foreign institution.
The minimum scores considered acceptable for admission by the Graduate School are:
TOEFL: 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT)
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination
