The Community and Regional Planning Ph.D. program is an innovative and growing initiative, having awarded its inaugural doctoral degree in 2000. Our alumni now hold faculty positions at prestigious institutions worldwide, including the University of Virginia, Cornell University, UC Irvine, University of British Columbia (Canada), University of Manchester (UK), Peking University Graduate School (China), and Yonsei University (South Korea). Others pursue impactful research careers at organizations like the World Bank, Texas Transportation Institute, and Seoul Development Institute. This doctoral program aims to equip students with the expertise needed for academic careers and leadership roles in both public and private sectors. We offer adaptable yet rigorous academic and professional training to enable graduates to drive meaningful progress in planning and policy domains. Successful doctoral research demands solid theoretical foundations, methodological skills, comprehensive knowledge of planning systems, and specialized expertise in relevant disciplines. Students can focus their studies on diverse planning areas such as international development, economic growth, environmental management, urban housing, transportation systems, or heritage conservation.
