The new Middle Eastern Studies (MES) program integrates language learning with interdisciplinary coursework across social sciences, history, and arts & humanities. Students select from eight specialized tracks: Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Turkish, Ancient Near East, History, Islamic Studies, or Literature. All majors will now complete the rigorous Capstone course, originally exclusive to MELC students, enhancing research and writing skills. This comprehensive approach equips graduates for advanced academic study or professional paths in government, business, and non-profit organizations. UT's Department and Center for Middle Eastern Studies provide exceptional resources for studying regional languages and exploring diverse fields from ancient civilizations to contemporary culture. Campus-wide initiatives like the student-led Refugee Mentor Program demonstrate our community engagement. MES graduates leave UT well-prepared for careers in academia, corporate sectors, NGOs, or public service.
