The Ancient History program integrates the examination of Greek and Roman history and culture with in-depth learning of classical languages, including either ancient Greek or Latin. Exploring these vibrant and impactful civilizations is both intrinsically fascinating and provides crucial historical context for comprehending our modern world.
The Classical Studies degree presents an opportunity for students to investigate ancient world history and material culture. Although Latin or Greek remains mandatory, most upper-level courses in this major focus on Ancient History and/or Classical Civilization. Those aspiring to graduate studies in ancient history or classical archaeology should aim to study both Latin and Greek beyond the basic requirements of the Classical Studies program.
