The Nursing Science Ph.D. program, offered in a hybrid format blending in-person and online learning, prepares nurse scientists to apply research-based knowledge, theories, and interventions in research, teaching, and leadership roles. Accepted students join the College of Graduate Health Sciences (CGHS), where they primarily take nursing-focused courses while collaborating with peers from diverse disciplines in subjects like biostatistics, health policy, and medical ethics. Each student partners with a faculty advisor who shares their research interests, with program faculty specializing in bio-behavioral studies and enhancing patient care results. The Ph.D. in Nursing Sciences aims to develop nurse scientists capable of creating and implementing knowledge worldwide. The curriculum focuses on: (1) applying and expanding nursing theory to contribute new insights, (2) conducting thorough, ethical research to advance healthcare knowledge, (3) evaluating, sharing, and implementing research findings, (4) ensuring research embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion, and (5) incorporating nursing knowledge and research evidence into practice and policy decisions.
