The doctoral program is designed for individuals who have proven their ability to perform autonomous research. Our department excels at guiding graduate studies across multiple specialties including spatial analysis and transportation geography, urban and economic geography, population studies and migration patterns, demographic research, social justice and ethnic geographies, climate change impacts and environmental history, human-environment relationships, natural environment geography (with emphasis on biogeography and landform studies), and Geographic Information Systems. Our faculty possesses expertise to mentor students employing diverse methodologies, from historical, qualitative, and social theory approaches to quantitative, computational, and geospatial techniques. The department has particular strengths in overseeing graduate research in natural environment geography (focusing on biogeography, ancient climate studies, and landform evolution), spatial analysis (including site selection studies, environmental simulation, and GIS applications), and human geography (covering economic systems, urban development, transportation networks, population dynamics, and cultural patterns).
