The Cities, Development, and Justice (CDJ) specialization addresses today's critical issues by exploring connections between social structures and spatial dynamics. Our program investigates how environmental factors intersect with economic expansion, historical transformations, and current political systems. This broad geographical scope covers worldwide urban growth, unequal regional progress, environmental equity, activist movements, racial geography, socio-environmental knowledge systems, infrastructure governance, human migration patterns, displaced populations, humanitarian assistance, and global development geopolitics. CDJ graduates gain qualifications for professional paths in urban/environmental policy across government agencies, legal fields, corporate environments, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, and research settings. Students completing this concentration will acquire expertise in global development challenges, develop persuasive arguments regarding equity concerns, and master various analytical research techniques. Additionally, they'll maintain current understanding of key theoretical discussions within social science disciplines.
