The Department of Nutrition provides an accelerated 5-year BS/MS program for eligible students pursuing a major in Nutrition with a Biomedical Nutrition Science concentration. A key feature allows qualified undergraduates to apply up to 9 credits of approved graduate courses toward both their bachelor's and master's degrees during their senior year. Conditional admission decisions occur by the end of junior year at UT, with students selecting either a project or thesis track involving original research. Thesis candidates must initiate their research project by their senior year through NUTR 493 and/or NUTR 499 enrollment. Each participant must form a three-member graduate advisory committee before Term 7 concludes. Admission requirements include: declared Nutrition major status (Biomedical Nutrition Science concentration), minimum 3.30 GPA, completion of 15 Nutrition credit hours and 90 of the 120 required BS credits. Applicants must submit three faculty recommendation letters and secure a graduate research faculty mentor who will chair their advisory committee. The Department evaluates additional factors like work experience and maturity during the conditional admission process, which requires joint approval from both the Nutrition Department and Graduate School. Applicants typically receive decisions before commencing their senior year.
