The Department of Animal Science provides an accelerated Five-Year BS/MS program for eligible students, combining a Bachelor's in Animal Science with a thesis-based Master's degree. A key feature allows qualified undergraduates to apply up to nine credit hours of graduate coursework toward both degrees as senior electives. Applicants are usually evaluated for provisional admission during or right after their junior year at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Since the MS program mandates original thesis research, students must begin developing a research project with an approved graduate advisory committee (meeting MS requirements) shortly after completing their third undergraduate year.
