The Zoology program provides scientific education focused on animal diversity, organismal biology, ecology, and evolutionary processes. The core curriculum establishes a strong base in biological sciences, with elective options enabling students to tailor their studies to specific interests in animal biology. Participation in undergraduate research, internships, teaching opportunities, and study abroad programs is highly encouraged, with credits applicable toward major requirements.
Graduates with a Zoology degree pursue diverse careers including animal care and breeding, museum curation, laboratory animal research, wildlife biology and conservation, as well as environmental policy and management. Note that the Zoology major does not fulfill prerequisite coursework for pre-veterinary studies (refer to the Pre-Veterinary Medicine option within the Biology major).
Upon completing the program, students will achieve these educational objectives:
Demonstrate and utilize core biological principles encompassing Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Animal Physiology and Diversity, Ecology and Evolution, along with Conservation Management and Policy.
Locate and assess scientific information (from primary literature and other credible sources) on specific topics, analyzing both content and scientific context.
