The pre-dental, pre-medical, pre-pharmacy, and pre-veterinary programs enable students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Food Science with a food science major after three years, provided they successfully finish their first year (two semesters) at UT-Memphis dental/medical programs or the UT College of Veterinary Medicine. The final 30 credit hours of the three-year program must be completed at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Students must accumulate 120 total credit hours by the end of their first professional school year. Before December 31 of their first professional school year, students should reach out to the Food Science Department to confirm graduation requirements for this pathway.
While a Bachelor of Science isn't mandatory for Dentistry or Medicine College admissions, most accepted applicants already hold this degree. Consequently, students are advised to fulfill all Bachelor of Science requirements before entering these professional programs. It's also possible to complete the Bachelor of Science degree prior to starting a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.
