The University of Tennessee's Deaf Studies bachelor's degree program operates under the Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education (TPTE), part of the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS). This curriculum equips students with comprehensive knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL), ASL linguistics, Deaf cultural heritage, and contemporary educational developments. Instruction throughout the program, encompassing classroom interactions, discussions, and assessments, is conducted in both ASL and English. A key focus of the program is promoting social justice, aiming to develop educators and interpreters with cultural awareness who can deliver fair, high-quality education to diverse learners.
