Elementary and high schools face the greatest impact from the lack of interpreters for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in Arizona and nationwide. The Bachelor of Science in Deaf Studies with a focus on Educational Interpreting equips students to work as interpreters for deaf and hard-of-hearing students in academic environments. Beyond achieving fluency in American Sign Language (ASL), students develop cultural understanding and respect for the deaf community, apply modern interpreting theories/models, and gain hands-on experience through school internships.
