The Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures enhances language skills while promoting analytical thinking through the study of literature, film, and linguistics, thereby cultivating insightful viewpoints on diverse cultures and our own society. Faculty and student achievements in research, instruction, and community involvement create a strong platform for promising careers as knowledgeable, active participants in society. Undergraduate students can pursue a B.A. in Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures with specializations in French, German, Italian, Russian, or Spanish. Additionally, we provide a Language and World Business concentration, extending to Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Portuguese alongside the core languages. Hebrew and Persian courses are also offered. Our Universal Tracking (uTrack) system helps students maintain progress toward timely degree completion by outlining semester-specific requirements called milestones, which involve passing designated courses and maintaining minimum GPA standards. Note that uTrack applies exclusively to full-time students seeking degrees.
