The World Languages & Cultures program extends learning beyond traditional classroom walls, engaging students in deep cultural and linguistic immersion to cultivate globally minded individuals. With Russia currently playing a pivotal role in international geopolitics - instigating Europe's most significant conflict since WWII, endangering worldwide food supplies, and supporting authoritarian governments globally - comprehending Russian culture and history has become crucial for Americans. This knowledge will be essential for establishing lasting peace when future opportunities emerge. Students pursuing Russian studies serve as key ambassadors in promoting this understanding across Tennessee and the United States.

At the University of Tennessee, the Russian studies curriculum develops comprehensive expertise in the language, history, and cultural traditions of Russia and its diverse ethnic communities. Beyond providing instruction in language, literature, and cultural studies, the program actively supports international education through participation in prestigious study abroad initiatives.
