The University of Tennessee's Asian Studies program offers students in-depth exploration of both classical and contemporary Asian cultures. This Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with an Asian Studies concentration blends language acquisition with coursework across multiple disciplines including art history, geography, history, literature, political science, and religious studies. Students specialize in one of four cultural regions: China, the Islamic World, Japan, or South/Southeast Asia. The program draws resources from various departments: Art, Geography, History, Modern Foreign Languages and Literature, Political Science, and Religious Studies, supplemented by special topic courses. With Asia's expanding global impact in culture and commerce, this specialization becomes ever more valuable. Graduates can enter government roles in diplomacy, foreign affairs, immigration services, or international organizations, as well as private sector opportunities. The program also prepares students for graduate studies to refine language proficiency, pursue academic careers, enter legal professions, and more.
