The Global Studies program explores worldwide interconnections and relationships. The Global Politics and Economy track emphasizes social sciences, requiring more courses in this area compared to humanities. Globalization—the international flow of capital, goods, populations, political ideas, innovations, and cultural elements—represents both a defining feature of modern society and the endpoint of extensive historical transformations. While globalization often appears driven by emerging economic and political structures surpassing conventional national boundaries, it has simultaneously sparked fresh forms of local and cross-border activism and opposition. At the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, the global studies program equips students to grasp the consequences of worldwide shifts, enabling our academic community to analyze local developments through a global lens. By uniting scholars and learners from varied backgrounds, we foster a multidisciplinary approach to comprehending the fragmentation and unification emerging from evolving national frameworks, worldwide trends, and cultural identities.
