The Global Studies program explores worldwide interconnections. The Global Politics and Economy track emphasizes social sciences, requiring more courses in this area than humanities. Globalization—the cross-border flow of capital, goods, populations, ideologies, innovations, and traditions—represents both a modern phenomenon and the result of extensive historical societal shifts. While globalization often appears driven by emerging economic and political structures surpassing conventional nation-states, it has also sparked fresh forms of local and international dissent and opposition.
At the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, the global studies program equips students to grasp worldwide transformations, enabling our academic community to analyze local developments through a global lens. By uniting professors and learners from varied backgrounds, we foster a multidisciplinary approach to comprehending the fragmentation and unification caused by evolving national boundaries, worldwide trends, and cultural identities.
