The Classics Department offers students the opportunity to explore Greek and Latin languages alongside comprehensive studies of the ancient Mediterranean world. Geographically, our focus spans the Mediterranean region and its surrounding areas, while chronologically we cover everything from prehistoric times through the fall of the Western Roman Empire. We frequently collaborate with archaeologists from Anthropology and History departments, as well as medieval scholars from English, History, and Modern Foreign Languages departments. This interdisciplinary approach allows us to examine an extensive timeline and diverse methodologies, investigating not just ancient languages and texts but also material culture through archaeology, social history, cultural analysis, economic studies, and more.
