The Global Studies Bachelor of Arts is a multidisciplinary program that introduces students to intricate historical and modern connections between societies and locations. Emphasizing globalization topics, this major helps students understand and value global diversity. The program's primary goal is to develop students' analytical, worldwide perspective, equipping them to address critical issues and succeed in our interconnected planet.
Global studies majors concentrate on one of four specializations: global health, international conflict and security, sustainable global development, or worldwide cultures. They also select a specific region for in-depth exploration: Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa, or Russia and Eurasia. Furthermore, students must achieve fluency in a foreign language to facilitate international study, employment, travel, and research opportunities. The program additionally provides a specialized track in Leadership for the Global Economy.
International freshman applicants must be high school graduates (students that have the equivalent of a diploma in the United States).
English proficiency is measured through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A score of at least 550 on the paper based exam or 77 on the internet based TOEFL is required. USC also accepts the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the PTE Academic Test. Students must score at least a 6.5 on the IELTS, or at least a 53 on the PTE.
