The College of Education, Human Performance, and Health is a nationally recognized institution dedicated to training educators for PK-12 schools. This professional college oversees all aspects of teacher preparation programs, including curriculum development and instructional processes. Degree offerings include Bachelor of Arts programs in child development, family studies, community health, early childhood education, elementary education, and middle level education, along with Bachelor of Science programs in exercise science, physical education, and special education. Secondary education candidates can pursue either degree type. At the graduate level, Master of Education degrees are available in applied learning, instruction, and special education with a visual impairment focus. Faculty members not only teach professional courses but also conduct research to advance educational theory and practice.
The elementary education track equips future teachers for grades 2-6 through a comprehensive curriculum blending liberal arts, professional training, and hands-on classroom experience. The culminating student teaching semester (EDEL U468) requires full-day classroom immersion for fourteen weeks at assigned elementary schools.
