The University of San Francisco provides a distinctive master's program in museum studies, designed to equip students for leadership roles in arts, culture, and heritage institutions navigating evolving social landscapes. Our adaptable sixteen-month curriculum allows customization to accommodate diverse academic pursuits. The Museum Studies MA equips graduates with both theoretical understanding and practical skills for careers in museums, historical societies, cultural nonprofits, and heritage organizations. This 32-credit program focuses on social justice, curatorial methods, educational technology, collections care, nonprofit administration, financial planning, and legal aspects of museum operations.
Participants finish the full-time, on-campus 32-credit program within 16 months, completing three academic terms plus a mandatory internship. During their second fall semester, students synthesize their first-year learning by developing a four-credit capstone project or research paper on a museum studies topic of personal interest.
