Our Museum Studies program emphasizes thoughtful examination of museums' historical impact and future potential. Using a critical approach and actively working to diversify perspectives in our curriculum, we equip students to become impactful museum professionals. We welcome visionary individuals eager to contribute to and advance our mission. Our aim is to cultivate forward-thinking museum leaders who can navigate the complex political, social, and cultural challenges of our changing world while promoting justice and equity.
Founded in 1999, the Museum Studies Program at the University of Florida College of the Arts holds the distinction of being the Southeast's first MA program in this field. For over two decades, our 2.5-year graduate program has focused on developing principled, community-oriented professionals. The Master of Arts curriculum combines academic rigor with practical experience, preparing graduates for diverse museum careers and further scholarly pursuits.

Qualification Requirements

A written statement of purpose explaining why you are pursuing our graduate program. Specifically, this is your time to address 3 components: What do you see as the role of museums in the 21st century and how is a critical museum studies framework important for their continued cultural relevance? How do you hope to impact the future of museums and communities with your degree from this program? What experiences have prepared you to participate in museum work and/or critical museum studies?
A section to electronically request THREE (3) required letters of recommendation from faculty or professionals who can speak to your ability to be successful in a graduate program. You will need to allow time for recommenders to receive and respond to the University request, so complete and submit your entire application as quickly as possible. More information and directions are provided as you complete the online application. You may also view the status of your application to check if your letters and transcripts have arrived.
R'sum or curriculum vitae - Pursuant to Florida Statute, your application requires inclusion of all post-high school education and employment, as well as information about ongoing international affiliations and research funding. Please ensure this information is included on your curriculum vitae (CV) or r'sum.
A GPA calculator that requires you to enter the grades earned in the upper-division courses (junior/senior years), read the directions carefully to complete this section.
A section to upload unofficial transcripts. For the purpose of initial review unofficial, scanned copies of transcripts (not screenshorts of grades) are accepted, official transcripts are required separately for applicants who receive an offer of admissions.
The GRE is not required.
A recognized baccalaureate, graduate or professional degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution.
Applicants with a bachelor's degree only, a minimum grade point average of B (3.0), calculated from all grades and credits after the semester where the applicant reached 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours is required. For applicants from countries where English is not the ofcial language, a minimum score on one of these English Language Skills tests, IELTS - 6.0,TOEFL IBT- 80, PBT- 550.
