The Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (BMB) Program prepares students seeking a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, featuring faculty mentors who guide doctoral research. Prospective Biochemistry Ph.D. candidates should apply through this program for graduate admission at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
Our curriculum provides rigorous coursework and varied research experiences centered on exploring fundamental biochemical processes in living systems.
Students engage in pioneering research using advanced techniques such as mass spectrometry, crystallography, microcalorimetry, surface plasmon resonance, microarray technology, flow cytometry, light scattering, and spectroscopic analysis (including fluorescence lifetime and energy transfer studies), alongside contemporary approaches to cell culture, protein isolation, genetic investigation, and biochemical system reconstruction.
Our adaptable program structure enables trainees to explore multiple research fields and frequently fosters impactful cross-disciplinary partnerships, leading to innovative dissertation work.
