Starting a career in education—whether as a teacher, counselor, or human development professional—requires both a bachelor's and master's degree, usually involving six or more years of higher education.
The Guaranteed Rochester Accelerated Degree in Education (GRADE) program is an intensive five-year BA/BS to MSEd pathway designed for aspiring educators. Accepted students gain guaranteed admission to the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development (located on Rochester's main campus).
This program combines a robust liberal arts foundation with professional training for future educators. Following undergraduate studies, participants can potentially finish their master's program in just fifteen months at the Warner School (spanning summer, fall, spring, and summer terms). Master's specializations include counseling, human development, educational policy, and various teaching concentrations, with optional certifications in areas like special education or digital instruction. While students can pursue any undergraduate major, they must incorporate MSEd preparatory courses meeting New York State certification requirements.
