Technology Education is a comprehensive field aimed at enhancing students' understanding of technology. By exploring technological systems, their resources, processes, and societal effects, students learn about technology's influence throughout history and its potential future impact. MSU's Technology Education Broadfield Teaching program prepares individuals to teach industrial technology in middle or high schools or pursue careers requiring broad industrial technology knowledge. This program offers specialized training in Technology Education, equipping graduates for teaching roles in grades 5-12. The curriculum is divided into three stages to build interconnected knowledge. The initial phase introduces fundamental technological principles, setting the groundwork for advanced study. The intermediate phase delves into key areas like communication, construction, manufacturing, and power/energy. Teaching-track students take professional education courses during this stage, while industrial technology students customize their studies for career objectives. The final phase combines prior learning through hands-on experiences. Teaching candidates complete a semester-long placement in middle or high schools. Those pursuing 5-12 or K-12 teaching degrees must complete specific professional education courses with a minimum grade of C (C- is insufficient).
