The department provides undergraduate programs leading to either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in brain and cognitive sciences. The brain and cognitive sciences (BCS) major enables students to explore mental processes and their outcomes, covering areas such as:
Perception, Action, Thinking, Language, Learning, Memory.
This challenging yet approachable scientific field combines elements of cognitive psychology, computer science, and neuroscience to investigate how the mind and brain function.
Students can pursue either a BA or BS in brain and cognitive sciences. Both programs share a core curriculum that blends biological, behavioral, and computational methods for studying perception, language, cognition, learning, and development. While sharing similar requirements, the BS degree mandates supplementary coursework in subjects like biology, mathematics, linguistics, and computer science beyond the BCS department.
The BA program offers foundational knowledge across all brain and cognitive sciences disciplines while promoting specialized study in one particular area. Compared to the BS, it has fewer required courses, providing students with more flexibility in designing their academic path.
