The Addiction Studies program at The University of North Texas equips you to become a supportive professional. You'll work with individuals struggling with addiction, those vulnerable to substance abuse, and people in recovery. Career paths in substance use disorders and behavioral addiction recovery span hospitals, community organizations, educational institutions, legal systems, government agencies, recovery support services, sober living facilities, detox centers, and both private and public treatment programs. Our curriculum fulfills the educational requirements for Texas Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) certification.
This major trains students to support individuals dealing with substance abuse and behavioral addictions (such as gambling or eating disorders) to achieve sustained recovery, independence, and enhanced wellbeing. Graduates emerge as versatile professionals committed to promoting fairness and improving life outcomes across diverse communities affected by addiction. The program covers addiction diagnosis, various treatment approaches, and skills for effectively assisting both adult and adolescent populations.
Our faculty consists of scholar-practitioners who deliver education with real-world impact. Experts in gerontology, healthcare systems, rehabilitation counseling, and behavioral health train students to create meaningful change in people's lives.
Program graduates pursue careers as researchers, educators, administrators, and clinical practitioners. If you seek a fulfilling profession that helps individuals across community, public, or private sectors, our program offers the ideal foundation.
