This research-focused Ph.D. program provides diverse specialization options in electrical, computer, and biomedical engineering. Candidates must complete at least 72 credits beyond their bachelor's degree. Up to 30 credits from a master's degree can be applied, with the remaining credits divided between coursework and dissertation research. Those entering with a relevant master's degree typically complete 18-24 dissertation credits, while students without one may take 18-30 (additional dissertation credits can be taken without counting toward degree requirements). The program requires both qualifying and comprehensive exams (the latter after finishing all coursework). All students must complete two credits of departmental seminars (ELE 601 and 602), which don't count toward the 42-credit post-master's requirement.
