Teaching is an intensely challenging, diverse, intricate, and fulfilling career, much like our secondary education teacher training program. We seek candidates with excellent academic credentials, a passion for expanding their subject expertise, and a deep dedication to nurturing children's intellectual, social, and emotional development.
URI's secondary education program is fully accredited, equipping graduates to teach in both middle and high schools (grades 7-12).
Certification options include biology, chemistry, general science, physics, English, social studies/history, and mathematics.
Secondary education majors complete specialized professional coursework alongside their chosen academic discipline studies.
Graduates earn a B.A. degree with dual majors in secondary education and their content area, plus initial teaching certification for grades 7-12 in their specialized field.
