After successfully finishing this degree program and submitting passing scores for the required licensing exams, you'll be eligible for recommendation to the Hawaii Teachers Standards Board (HTSB) for initial teaching certification to instruct grades six through twelve (6-12) in general education settings. The undergraduate major curriculum combines a robust liberal arts background with professional education coursework, subject-area specialization, teaching methodology training, and hands-on classroom experience. Enrollment in most teacher preparation courses requires classified status within the College of Education, with many also needing admission to State Approved Teacher Education Programs (SATEP). Detailed requirements for elementary and secondary Bachelor of Education programs, along with SATEP criteria, can be obtained from the College of Education's Office of Student Academic Services (OSAS). Degree candidates must complete all program requirements current during their admission term, while licensure seekers must satisfy SATEP standards in effect at their program entry. Note that the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB) may modify SATEP requirements, and certification candidates must fulfill all licensure criteria applicable at their graduation date.
