Digital entertainment and CGI visual effects have become integral to modern culture. Producing these computer-generated visuals is far from simple, demanding a careful fusion of artistic vision and technical expertise. Teams of specialized professionals—including animators, artists, writers, engineers, designers, and developers—work tirelessly with advanced tools and technology. Yet, few comprehensive university programs exist to properly train students for these roles. The Master of Science in Engineering in Computer Graphics and Game Technology (CGGT) was designed precisely to fill this gap.
Students seeking admission to the program are assumed to have a bachelor's degree in either Computer Science or Engineering. Students seeking admission with non-computer science and/or engineering undergraduate backgrounds will require a minimum of two years to complete the program.
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
