Our graduate program in Buddhism leverages expertise in both traditional and modern Theravada and Mahayana traditions. Students can pursue specialized language training in Bengali, Buddhist-hybrid Sanskrit, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Lao, Malayalam, Malay, Mongolian, Nepali, Pali, Sanskrit, Tamil, Thai, Tibetan, Vietnamese, and other Buddhist languages. The program encourages interdisciplinary exploration through anthropological, historical, art historical, philological, sociopolitical, and textual methodologies, with cross-departmental course options in Religious Studies, Ancient History, Anthropology, Art History, Comparative Literature, East Asian Studies, Musicology, and South Asian Studies.
