The Music Education program features a rigorous, performance-focused curriculum designed to help you earn both your degree and California teaching certification in four years. You'll cultivate teaching abilities through practical, experiential learning in diverse musical environments. With courses in technique, conducting, integrated fieldwork, and more, you'll enhance your musical expertise, self-assurance, and outlook. Lead music instruction in K-12 programs for up to 45 hours each semester across multiple terms. Take full responsibility for elementary music classes (with faculty guidance) for an entire semester. Shadow and support seasoned music educators in real classroom settings. Build proficiency in instrumental, vocal, general music, and specialized courses that explore modern technology, diverse musical genres, and multicultural traditions. Participate in sight-reading sessions, rehearsals, and performances alongside visiting school ensembles on campus.
