The Master of Arts program equips students with advanced expertise in music theory and related disciplines. Through graduate-level courses and seminars, participants explore analytical challenges and the evolution of music theory.
As part of our Graduate Teaching Fellow initiative, MA candidates develop teaching competencies, with numerous students showcasing their research at regional academic gatherings. Degree completion necessitates a music theory thesis, supervised by a faculty advisor and two additional reviewers who provide close mentorship. Our alumni have successfully entered prestigious PhD programs globally, including our institution's doctoral offerings.

Qualification Requirements

All students admitted to a graduate music program at the University of Oregon must possess the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree.
