The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures provides a Master of Arts (MA) degree specializing in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Linguistics and Pedagogy. This unique program stands among only a handful nationwide that comprehensively addresses all three major East Asian languages.
Participants can choose to focus on linguistic studies or language teaching methodologies for Chinese, Japanese, or Korean, or they may pursue comparative linguistic research across these languages.
The program's origins trace back to 1995 when Professor Noriko Fujii, now deceased, established an acclaimed MA and PhD curriculum concentrating on Japanese Linguistics and Pedagogy. Today's expanded program continues this legacy while incorporating all three principal East Asian languages.
Our EALL faculty possess extensive knowledge across key linguistic and applied linguistic disciplines. Both our research and instruction prioritize functional, evidence-based approaches to analyzing language systems, usage patterns, and educational methods.
