The UO Anthropology Department provides a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program specializing in one of three areas: Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, or Cultural Anthropology. Graduate students typically concentrate on one subfield but often pursue interdisciplinary approaches that connect multiple subfields and other academic disciplines.
Applicants should choose a primary focus area (Archaeology, Cultural Anthropology, or Biological Anthropology) for their graduate studies. While your application must specify a core subdiscipline, we acknowledge that modern anthropological research frequently crosses disciplinary boundaries, and we actively promote and facilitate work that spans multiple areas of study.
