The Department of Feminist Studies, featuring more than sixty primary and associated faculty across nineteen academic departments, exemplifies interdisciplinary scholarship and collaborative research at UCSB. By Spring 2012, nearly 70 students had earned their degrees from UCSB after completing the doctoral emphasis program. Over 50 additional students are presently enrolled in the emphasis. Doctoral candidates in Feminist Studies must successfully finish four specialized seminars that cultivate critical thinking and analytical skills in feminist theory, pedagogy, and the examination of gender and sexuality. As a cross-departmental hub for intellectual discourse, Feminist Studies also maintains a diverse undergraduate program at UCSB, with doctoral emphasis students being actively encouraged to gain teaching experience as assistants or associates in Feminist Studies courses as part of their professional development.
