The University of Oregon's music education program stands out as one of the most extensive and forward-thinking in the western U.S., being Oregon's sole institution providing undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in this field. Our distinguished faculty specialize in various areas including instrumental, vocal, elementary general, and orchestral music instruction. The UO is one of few West Coast universities that enables students to complete music teaching certification during their four-year undergraduate program.
Our music education professors regularly publish in leading academic journals, write books, contribute to collected volumes, and participate in performances and presentations across local, national, and global platforms. Beyond pursuing their individual research interests, faculty in the Music Education Department actively guide graduate students' research endeavors. Together, faculty and students engage in numerous research initiatives, presenting their findings at academic gatherings, through visual displays, and in various publications.
