The Neag School of Education provides two certification pathways: the Integrated Bachelor's/Master's (IB/M) Teacher Education Program and the Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates (TCPCG). Details about TCPCG can be found in the Graduate Catalog. Their teacher preparation model combines structured learning experiences, extensive clinical practice, liberal arts education, and teaching methodology within a collaborative setting that fosters partnerships between public schools, professional development schools, Neag School departments, and University arts and sciences faculty.
To receive the University of Connecticut's certification recommendation, candidates must complete the five-year Integrated Bachelor's/Master's Teacher Education Program. This includes two years of general education and subject-specific coursework before Neag School admission, followed by two years of undergraduate teacher education and one graduate year for a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Psychology. Additionally, Connecticut's Praxis Core and subject knowledge assessments must be passed.
