These programs cater to both continuing and full-time students, as well as working professionals who prefer to distribute their coursework across multiple years. The College consistently provides core classes and select electives during evening hours. Typically, full-time students can finish a master's degree within four standard semesters, while part-time students can progress at their preferred speed, with a maximum completion window of five years.
Focus Areas
Creative Media Production
This specialization allows students to explore personal interests in video production and multimedia through a blend of theoretical and hands-on learning. Students customize their studies by combining core research and theory courses with additional classes or independent projects in video production and interactive media.
Media Management
The media management track equips students with the knowledge and abilities needed for leadership roles in the industry. Participants shape their academic journey through foundational media research and theory courses, JMC 5970 Fundamentals of Media Management, and other JMC electives or faculty-guided independent studies. Supplementary classes in marketing, business administration, or human resources can be selected to align with individual career goals.
Journalism
This concentration tackles both practical and theoretical aspects of news gathering, editing, and dissemination. Students may focus on digital journalism coursework. The program encourages interdisciplinary studies, allowing students to incorporate relevant classes from other departments based on their professional aspirations.
Strategic Communication: PR and Advertising
Graduate-level strategic communication appeals particularly to those pursuing careers in advertising, public relations, or research. Building on the program's core curriculum, this emphasis combines theoretical frameworks with practical applications. Students may enhance their studies with electives from related fields like marketing, human relations, communication, and psychology.
