The University of Oklahoma's Division of Architecture dedicates itself to training students from varied backgrounds through advanced architectural education. Emphasizing the progression of both architecture and society via teaching, research, and community engagement, our graduate programs create a dynamic platform for students to address environmental and societal challenges, directly influencing architectural practice. Alumni distinguish themselves through outstanding design talent, analytical thinking, and leadership qualities. Grounded in ethical principles and sustainable practices, our graduate curriculum prepares students to tackle multifaceted real-world problems extending far beyond traditional design boundaries.
Across the U.S., licensing boards typically mandate completion of an accredited professional architecture degree for certification. The NAAB, as the exclusive accrediting body for architecture programs at regionally accredited U.S. institutions, endorses three degree types: Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Architecture, and Doctor of Architecture. Accreditation periods vary—eight years (with or without conditions), two years for continuing programs, or three years for new programs—based on compliance with educational benchmarks. Both Doctor and Master of Architecture programs might accept applicants with non-accredited undergraduate architecture degrees, though such degrees alone don't qualify as NAAB-accredited credentials.
