The Native American Studies program provides two graduate certificate options that employ uniquely Indigenous viewpoints, focusing academic exploration on the sovereignty of Native nations and their cultural heritage.
The Graduate Certificate in Native American Studies prepares students from any field for sought-after careers within Indigenous communities. With Oklahoma's 39 Tribal Nations collectively ranking as the state's third-largest employer, this credential proves valuable across state agencies, particularly in education, healthcare, and tourism sectors that frequently collaborate with Tribal entities.
Students from various disciplines may find this program particularly beneficial, including those in Education, Law, Fine Arts, and Arts & Sciences (especially Sociology, English, Anthropology, History, and Political Science). Numerous graduate students already incorporate Native-focused research or curriculum into their MA and PhD work, often complementing their studies with multiple courses from the Native American Studies Department.
