The English Department at OU fosters a dynamic academic environment with a diverse group of scholars specializing in literary and cultural studies, writing and rhetoric, as well as film and media. Our program excels particularly in Composition, Rhetoric, and Literacy, along with Native American Studies. Graduates from our MA program frequently gain admission to leading PhD programs, while our CRL and NAS PhD recipients have secured tenure-track positions at renowned institutions. We provide full-time PhD and Master's programs in two primary concentrations: Literary and Cultural Studies (LCS) and Composition, Rhetoric, and Literacy (C/R/L). Our community includes over sixty graduate students who collaborate closely with approximately thirty distinguished faculty members, recognized nationally for their teaching and research across various historical periods and specialized fields. Beyond our core strengths in CRL and NAS, the department also offers expertise in Theory, Medieval and Early Modern Literature, British and American Literature, Creative Writing, transnational literary studies, interdisciplinary studies, and film and media studies.
