The language and cognition specialization at UConn explores key topics such as the neural processes involved in speech perception, reading, sentence comprehension, semantic memory, concept development, event understanding, individual variations, and dynamic systems perspectives on language and cognition in both typical and atypical groups.
This Ph.D. specialization equips students for academic and research careers. Research involvement starts immediately upon program entry. Participants also engage in colloquia and regular group discussions to examine theoretical and research challenges.
Ph.D. coursework generally takes two-and-a-half to three years to finish, with an additional one to two years for dissertation completion. Students must complete courses within the language and cognition specialization, other Psychological Sciences Department concentrations, and interdisciplinary programs university-wide. While program requirements are outlined below, students should work closely with their advisory committee to develop a personalized study plan.
