Shape your destiny. The UNT English graduate program caters to students aspiring to establish professional careers as creative writers, educators, or scholars. Featuring acclaimed experts across all major periods of American and British literature, along with nationally recognized authors in every genre, our English Department fosters diverse graduate research and creative projects. Our M.A. in Creative Writing provides specialized instruction in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction composition. Creative Writing master's candidates balance their studies between workshop sessions and literature courses, culminating in an original thesis that fulfills degree requirements.

You'll collaborate closely with both creative writing and literature faculty while discovering how literary traditions enhance writing skills. The creative writing specialization involves participating in fiction, poetry, and/or creative nonfiction workshops while completing various literature courses.

Numerous recent M.A. graduates have advanced to prestigious M.F.A. or Ph.D. programs, such as Stanford's Ph.D. program and the University of Houston's M.F.A. program.
