UNCW's Master of Fine Arts in filmmaking is an intensive three-year terminal degree. The program offers a thorough curriculum featuring multi-genre (narrative, documentary, and experimental) workshops covering cinematography, screenwriting, editing, sound design, producing, and directing, along with studies in film history, analysis, and aesthetics.

Students cultivate technical mastery and artistic vision by helming three film productions, working on peer-directed projects, and refining their craft through specialized courses, including electives in animation and emerging media (installation, 360-degree video, VR, and interactive formats). Each participant receives guidance from faculty mentors with diverse professional backgrounds.
